FAQs

  • Sessions can be a variety of lengths, typically 45 minutes to 1.5 hours with 1 hour being the norm. My sessions are entirely confidential, and you will sign informed consent forms and give some basic contact information.

In the session we will loosely follow this structure - check in, decentering - arts making - counseling, and then a review and check in about how the experience was for you.

Occasionally I can offer specific resources (books, info sheets, podcasts, etc) about a specific theme or issue you are having.

Sometimes sessions are heavily arts based and little talking happens, and sometimes its more of a traditional counselling session. This is always up to you and what you feel you need that day, and our sessions may change shape frequently.

Because these sessions are online and we are in separate spaces, you will need to have your own supplies available. This can be quite simple (you may be surprised at what materials we can create from!)

  • Expressive Arts therapy encompasses all of the following, and more (drawing, painting, dance and movement, theatre, sound). The goal is to express! This work weaves in ideas from somatics, psychotherapy, mindfulness, (etc) and gives you the opportunity to express without solely verbalizing (although that is ok too!). You do not need to be “good” at any of these art forms, or identify with your own artistic practice to participate (although I’d argue that everyone is inherently an artist).

  • Accredited as a RTC (Registered Therapeutic Counselor) with the ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counseling Therapists of Canada) and as EXAT (Expressive Arts Therapist) with OEATA Ontario Expressive Arts Therapy Association. This means I follow the professional and ethical guidlines of both of these institutions. Details of what this entails can be found on their respective websites.

“Caro always brought engaging and interesting projects and exercises for us to do and I deeply appreciated the way we would work on them simultaneously and be able to share our “finished” products at the end.”
